From Little House on The Prairie to Big Tax Lien for Melissa Gilbert
Melissa Gilbert may be a household name and beloved for her role in Little House on The Prairie. However, Ms. Gilbert has not been steadily employed since that long ago series and could be considered a Hollywood underdog today. I thrive on helping underdogs negotiate with the IRS, which is why I find this a fascinating topic.
The truth is, anyone can be in the underdog position very quickly. The most responsible taxpaying citizens, the well-known the famous, the infamous and the ordinary folks alike can suddenly be in a position to be slapped with an IRS lien. The playing field is pretty even and everyone in that position needs the help of an experienced tax resolution specialist.
If you owe the IRS back taxes and they’ve placed a lien on your personal property, you have something in common with thousands of other Americans from the richest to the poorest. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We all make mistakes, we get sick and we meet misfortune from time to time through the course of life. No one can predict what twist of fate will take them from superstar to underdog.
According to USA Today, Ms. Gilbert owes $360,000 to the IRS and she has negotiated a payment plan. I admire Ms. Gilbert for that. She has gone from the glamour of Hollywood to a rural community outside of Detroit. So, unlike many Hollywood “stars”, Gilbert has certainly made a change in her lifestyle that reflects the circumstances she now faces. Owing the IRS money is not the end of the world, nor is it the end of life. Taking action and negotiating is the next right thing to do.
