Tax Advisor Barry G. Fowler, Advises Against Claiming Ignorance of The Law with IRS Troubles
Barry G. Fowler, EA, leading expert in tax resolution issues and CEO of Taxation Solutions, uses a former billionaire entrepreneur who owes the IRS $3 billion in back taxes and is claiming ignorance of the law as an example of what not to do.
Houston, TX – January 21, 2016 – Barry G. Fowler, CEO of Taxation Solutions, posted a new article on his website entitled “Ignorance of the Law Does Not Excuse Anyone, Not Even Billionaires.” Having access to billions of dollars may make some people think they are immune to the most basic legal principles, but Barry Fowler makes it clear that is not the case.
Fowler explains, “Ignorance of the Law is a legal principle holding that a person who is unaware of a law may not escape liability for violating that law merely because he or she was unaware of its content.” He continues adding, “Every citizen is made aware of this principle from an early age. It applies to all laws including minor civil offenses to the most heinous criminal offenses as well as tax evasion and fraud laws.”
It seems odd to Fowler that, “Somehow, former billionaire and entrepreneur, Samuel Wyly seems to be unaware of the principle or so he claims, since he helped build the arts and crafts retailer Michaels Stores, Inc.” Fowler adds, “One would think an astute businessman like Mr. Wyly would be aware of that basic legal principle.”
